North Zealand Castle Tour

Travel north from Copenhagen along the beautiful Øresund coast on a private day-trip combining two of Denmark's most important historic sites.

Our curated castle tour combines royal architecture, maritime history, and charming landscapes, offering a balanced itinerary of cultural depth, scenic variety, and overall relaxation. Designed for clients seeking comfort, privacy, and expert insight, the North Zealand Castle Tour is delivered by our experienced chauffeurs and highly knowledgeable guides.

Your first stop is Kronborg Castle, located at the narrowest point between Denmark and Sweden. Built in the late 16ᵗʰ century during the reign of King Frederik II, Kronborg is one of Northern Europe's most significant Renaissance castles and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Known worldwide as the setting of Shakespeare's Hamlet, the castle and its surroundings create a harmonious sense of drama and prestige, impressing visitors with grand halls, imposing fortifications, and a touch of mystery with the contrasting underground casemates where Holger Danske is said to sleep and protect Denmark.

Before heading inland towards your next destination, enjoy a relaxing stroll down Helsingør's charming old town or stop by at Brostræde Is for an ice-cream that promises to bring back beloved childhood memories.

While Kronborg conveys a story of strength and elegance, Frederiksborg has a more graceful and gentle appeal. Built in the early 17th century by King Christian IV, the castle served as both the royal residence and a statement of authority. After a devastating fire in 1859 which left only the Chapel untouched, the castle was rebuilt and continued to become The Museum of National History in the late 1800s. Illustrating a carefully curated narrative of Danish history, Frederiksborg distinguishes itself with interior spaces such as the Great Hall and the Audience Chamber, and smaller, intimate rooms alike.

Outside, the copper spires and red bricks paint a perfect picture against the castle's lake and remarkable Baroque gardens. On a warm, sunny afternoon,  you can explore the gardens and see Frederiksborg Castle from various angles across the water, while imagining the lives and routines of the Danish monarchy two centuries ago.

Optional: Enjoy an early dinner on the castle grounds at Rabarbergården Restaurant, before returning to Copenhagen. Focusing on fresh, seasonal Nordic produce and a calm, rural atmosphere, the quaint restaurant promises high quality dishes in a relaxed setting.
